The Secret of Katz's Carrot Cake:
Have you ever been to New York? No?! Then get your butt down to the next best thing, Katz's Deli & Bar. The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is all the New York crap on the walls. Pictures of the Chrysler Building and checkered cabs and Audrey Hepburn from "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Even the ceiling has Big Apple Memorabilia: subway handles! In a restaurant! Oy Vey! Katz's is always busy, but the service is consistently excellent. And you get a free bucket of PICKLES! if you ask. (Like butter) We were seated next to an autographed picture of Madonna, who wrote, "I love your hard salami." And Madonna's right. They have choice salami. But even if you don't like salami, you should definitely check out Katz's carrot cake.
Here's a tip for those of you who are New York bound (or will be after a trip to Katz's). The "Seinfeld Restaurant" (really Tom's Restaurant) doesn't live up to the hype. I ate there and it was a disappointment. And no, the inside isn't like the inside on Seinfeld. Have you ever heard of a television studio? So, in closing, go to Katz's, eat the carrot cake, and visit New York, in that order. What are you waiting for? An engraved invitation?
