![]() January 14, 2001 Sim Sandwich Launched By Dick Wagner The new website offers its customers the ability to design, name, and eat a sandwich entirely online. As ingredients are selected, they float down the screen onto a piece of bread. When the customer is ready to chow down, the Sim Sandwich dissapears in a flurry of "chomp" marks. Andersen Consulting estimates that sales of virtual food, including Sim Sandwiches, will reach $5 billion by 2003. With such profit potential, Sim Sandwich is not the first business to enter this emerging market. Several competitors, including Pretend Pizza and I Can't Believe It's Virtual Butter, have already staked out territory. However, the competition has yet to garner the $30 million in venture capital recently secured by Nick Baker, Sim Sandwich's founder and CEO. "Our business model is based on getting big quickly, in order to build customer recognition and brand loyalty," said Baker in a recent interview. "We have the opportunity to revolutionize the way people think about eating. It's a whole new paradigm." Use of this website constitutes acceptance of the Sim Sandwich User Agreement. |
