THE
Star Wars
OF

OZ

Conclusive Proof

Have you ever wondered about the similarities between Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz? It is my contention that the former is simply a take-off on the latter. Don't believe me? Just look at this point by point comparison:

THE WIZARD OF OZ THE STAR WARS EQUIVALENT
Dorothy:
Living with her aunt and uncle on a farm in drought-ridden Kansas, she is sucked into the sky by a twister, and her adventures begin.
Luke/Leia*:
Luke lives on a farm with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, a desert planet. He is carried into space by the Millenium Falcon, and his adventures begin.
* The Dorothy figure is divided into Luke and Leia, identical twins with similar names. They each represent some aspects of Dorothy, and thus are interchangeable.
Toto:
Dorothy's dog, he faithfully follows her wherever she goes, barking all the way. Too bad we can't understand him.
R2D2:
Luke's faithful robot companion, R2D2 follows Luke throughout the trilogy, and especially on his visit to Dagobah, acting as Luke's plucky co-pilot and constant companion. His beeps are incomprehensible to humans.
The Scarecrow:
A stuffed man who is rescued from his pole by Dorothy. At first he can't stand, because his legs are so weak from hanging around.
Han Solo:
When he is frozen in carbonite, Leia comes to his rescue, getting him down from Jabba's wall. However, he can't see or stand at first because of the hibernation sickness.
The Tin Woodsman:
He is a metal man who was caught in a rainstorm and rusted into place. He is also saved by Dorothy, who oils his joints so that he can move again.
See Threepio:
An android, Luke buys him and then cleans him up.
"This oil bath is going to feel so good. My joints are so frozen I can hardly move them!"
The Cowardly Lion:
A great hairy beast who, despite his size and powerful roar, is a coward. He soon befriends and protects Dorothy.
Chewbacca:
A great shaggy wookie who also roars, and whose courage is debatable. He is charged with protecting Leia.
"Chewie, come back here, you big coward!"
The Wicked Witch of the West:
The villain of the story, she lives in a fearsome castle and causes trouble for Dorothy and her pals. She uses her magic for evil, and is butt ugly.
Darth Vader:
The evil lord who has turned to the dark side of the force, which he uses for agression and attack. He resides in the impenetrable Death Star, and has a black cape and disfigured face.
The Witch's Castle:
The formidable abode of the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy and her pals must survive a visit to get the Wizard of Oz to send them home. Dorothy triumphs by killing the Witch with a simple bucket of water.
The Death Star:
A giant space station that is infiltrated by Luke and his friends, and which must be destroyed by them. It turns out that a single torpedo launched by Luke destroys the whole thing.
The Winged Monkeys:
Sent by the witch to capture Dorothy et. al., they fly around causing much unpleasantness.
TIE Fighters:
Launched at Vader's command, they pursue the Millenium Falcon as Luke and his friends make their escape.
Glinda, the Good Witch of the South:
A sorceress who shows Dorothy that her shoes have magical powers.
Obi-wan Kenobi:
A jedi knight who helps Luke discover the power of the force.
"That sorcerer's just a crazy old man."
The Red Slippers:
A source of magic power, Dorothy had them with her all along, but didn't know how to use them until Glinda showed her.
The Force:
The magic power that resided within Luke, but which was only brought out under Obi-wan's tutilidge.
Munchkins:
Cute little guys who run around being adorable. Enough said.
Jawas:
Cute little guys who run around being adorable. And marketable.
The Wizard of Oz:
A small man who is hidden behind illusions (and a screen) so that Dorothy can not tell he is actually powerless. The Wizard uses his wits to help Dorothy get home by building her a balloon so she can fly back to Kansas.
Yoda:
A diminutive alien who acts foolishly at first so that Luke does not realize that he is very powerful. Yoda helps Luke by getting his X-wing out of the swamp so that Luke can fly away.
