Simplex Date Stamp

I ordered some ink along with the stamp (see previous post) for my Simplex Date Stamp which I got for 50 cents at a yard sale. I recently put a new power cord on it, since the old one was frayed.
This 20 pound machine will stamp any date from 1977 to 1986, so I've got it set to my birthday.
Yesterday I turned the print 90 degrees so that it uses the full width of the ink ribbon. When I got it, it was only using a tiny portion of the ribbon and you can see how worn it is.
