Informal Poll

I've been talking to people about library studies at the School of Information lately and there seems to be a lot of pessimism in the air. Back in the mid-nineties everyone was talking about how information management was the big new thing, and librarians were the ones to do it. Now it seems that their edge in this field has been eroding, and most of the groundbreaking work is being done in other areas (like Human Computer Interaction). With a broad range of organizations needing information management expertise, the focus of training new professionals has shifted away from libraries. The result is that, at the most cutting-edge schools, the library section of their programs is becoming atrophied. So, the question is...How long do you think it will be before SI loses its ALA accreditation?

and my question is what happens to the value of my Library and Information Science degree when my program is no longer accredited? it is, sadly, just a matter of time before we lose our accreditation. but according to our esteemed dean, this won't
