We were trying to figure out the etymology of "spatula" last night, and Sarah discovered that it is from the Latin diminutive of "spathe," which means "broadsword." So it turns out that spatula and spade have a similar root in spathe.Have at thee, scrambled eggs! En garde, dirt!
