Cleaning Out The Phone

I was going through my phone and deleting pictures so I'd have room for my vacation last weekend, and found these two pics I took in Texas in January.

Shangri-la IHOPThis is what we refer to as the Shangri-la IHOP because Blinn and Matthew and I found it one night and then could not find it again. We had been partying heavily with some disreputable types and finally went in search of sustenance at about 4 am when we found this place. The highway in the background is 183, but their sign doesn't stick up high enough to be seen from the highway.* Actually, it might be highway 2222. I'm not sure. Anyway, it's hard to find, but seems to turn up quite easily when you're lost on surface streets in a part of Austin that I don't usually frequent. Just like Shangri-la. And now I have proof of its existence!

Ronto Food MartThis is where Blinn and I stopped for gas on our way out of Austin. I was initially taken with the missing P on the sign, but the more I look at this picture the more I like it. The reflection in the window of the houses in the sun blends nicely with the neon inside, and the whole thing has a certain urban grittiness to it. But it also captures the sleepiness I associate with Austin and the South in general. Just another sunny, lazy day in central Austin. Except when it's cloudy over the Shangri-la IHOP.

* What's the deal with Texas overpasses? This one is about seven stories high, and as you can see it's not spanning a whole lot. I understand planning for future expansion, but it all seems a bit excessive.

I like the missing P, too. I like saying "Ronto!"
