"Gradschool is like those restaurants where if you eat the whole 75 oz steak you get your meal paid for. Sure, if you finish it's free, but it takes forever, your friends enjoy their meal a lot more, and the repercussions on your gastrointestinal system take years to work out."- Joe Nemanick

More applicable to PhD programs than Master's programs I suppose. As my friend Bill said, by the time you figure out you're miserable in a Master's program, you're halfway done.

I think steak is better than grad school. Perhaps not 75 oz steaks, but steak in moderation.

I'm going to be starting grad school in September... is it really that bad?

It's not so bad, I'm actually really happy with the program I chose. But it is also the job of graduate students to be grumpy about their programs, no matter how good they have it. So I can gripe about grad school, while at the same time realizing that it's the best place I could be right now.

I suppose there are worse things than grad school; like the kind of grad school where you have to pay to go there, rather than they pay you. The best thing I can say about the last six years at Caltech is that at least I got paid whist I was being bent over. And the weather is nice too, I guess.

Amen to that!
