I've done some fishing in my time but that is a huge fish!
According to the New York Times, this giant catfish from the Mekong River was 9 feet long and weighed 646 pounds, making it the biggest freshwater fish ever recorded. It makes General Sherman look like a guppie!

Yeah, except this catfish was from China. With all the barge traffic and dredging and whatnot, I'd be surprised if the Mississippi had any fish this big left, though in Mark Twain's day they were probably plentiful.

how did you catch it? by net!!!!!! the bigest cat fish I have ever seen !!! but have had a friend tell me storys that his dad had seen some that was so big that he would never go diving in the keystone lake again and the guy was a marine biologist take that with a grain of salt.

I haven't seen a fish that big before but i've heard that near the damn on the Mississippi River in Keokuk, IA there have been divers go down and see Catfish as big as Volkwagens.

OK Kiddies That pic is not fake In Fact we do have fish that big in the U.S I live on the Ohio river near the Greenup Kentucky Dam there are big turbons that make electricty .When the smaller fish pass through it they are chumed up . About 18 years ago they had to do some work on the dam one of the divers was bored so he went down to the base of the dam, there was a concave in the base of the dam where the water was calm he shined his light back in the hole and freaked out when they got him out of the water and calmed down he said at first he thought somone had dumped a voltswagon in the river and it had washed back there then it moved twards him . (He refused to go back into the water)

What an impressive catch! I am disappointed in the number of readers who question this....yes, a huge specimen, but it looks real. I have to assume that no one would fake all this. It is a Mekong Catfish. Caught in Thailand, yes using a net. They average 300-400 lbs. They string a giant net with really big holes in it across the river, from bank to bank. Then they sit and wait. Used to catch 2 or 3 a day, now it takes about a week to catch one.
