Bye Bye Birdie

I discovered Bye Bye Birdie on my digital cable last month and it's hilarious!Best non-answer answer:
Hugo: "You don't like that Birdie creep, do you?"
Kim: "What do my eyes tell you?"
Best Song: Hymn for a Sunday Evening (an ode to Ed Sullivan)
One strange thing about the movie is that Dick Van Dyke's mother is played by an actress who is the same age as he is. I thought she looked a bit young to be his mother and IMDB confirmed it, they were both 37!
The sendup of Elvis through the character of a gold lamee'd Conrad Birdie is both hilarious and frightening. There is a rumor that the director George Sidney was a friend of Elvis', and that Elvis secretly recorded all of Birdie's songs for an alternate soundtrack. Of course, the Presley estate will never let the so-called "King Soundtrack" come to light.

There's a song in Bye Bye Birdie that I always want to sing as "One boy, one special boy, one boy to joke with, to smoke with, do coke with..." I have just looked it up and discovered that they lyrics are actually "One boy to laugh with, to jump with, drink Coke with." Yeah, because you don't want to get a reputation as the kind of girl who JUMPS AROUND.

I thought it was "laugh with, to joke with, have Coke with." I guess I'll have to pay better attention next time. This sounds like perfect fodder for a mash up... The song about how great it is to be a woman is pretty funny too.

Ann Margret looks like she's on coke in this picture:
That, or she's feeling ravenous and will consume your soul.

ann margaret went to my high school! isn't that exciting! perhaps at the same time as Donald Rumsfeld, though she seems a bit before his time. Maybe then Charleton Heston? they seem closer in age. oh yes, an impressive legacy. new trier: producer of coke (or diet coke) addicts and crazy gun-toting crazies.

Your lyrics sound better, but I found mine on the Internet, Knower Of All Things.

If anyone has the songs from the movie downloaded.. I would really appreciate a copy also :) I fell in love with this movie in the 80's because my aunts used to watch it all the time... My friends will never forgive me for making them watch it all through college, and now I'd like to play songs at my wedding :)!!!!
