Candlepin Bowling!
November 29, 2005 @ 11:33 am
So I get back to work and what do I find in my inbox, but the schedule for the 2005-2006 Faculty Club Candlepin Bowling League! My team is the Velocirappers and my first game is today at 4 pm. Awesome! For those of you not native to the East, candlepin bowling is like regular bowling but different. The pins are taller and narrower, and the bowling balls fit in the palm of your hand. This website explains it pretty well. I haven't been candlepin bowling in 20 years, so this should be an interesting afternoon.

so fun! are you really the velocirappers not the velociraptors? is there a pun i'm missing? (see, the velocirappers are a rapper sword team in mass. perhaps you can join them, too!) do you get team bowling shirts?

I knew I forgot to ask the important questions, like what the hell our team name means! I lucked out with team placement though, I am on a team with Admissions and Financial Aid officers, all in their 20s. On the team we played against, I don't think there was a single member under 60. But they cleaned our clocks. Candlepin bowling is harder than I remembered, I only rolled a 66.

maybe we can go candlepin bowling as part of our eggnog-soaked, hippie, solstice celebration!

It's an ancient game, so it would fit in well with the overall solstice theme I think.
