Blog Article

Blog CoverI just finished reading an article in the February 20th issue of New York about "The Blog Establishment" and was surprised to learn that people can actually make money at blogging. The had a little chart of who links to who and how many thousands of incoming links the top blogs have.

It occurred to me that while there might be a few giant blogs that many people read, there are many more small nodes of readership around personal or professional communities. That's where the real action is, at the grass roots level. Those big blogs are increasingly controlled by the mainstream media.

I also realized that I don't have a blog roll on this thing, so people can't tell who I read on a regular basis. So I'll have to set one up.

Oh, and I asked my boss about starting a blog about my library activities (all the cool librarians have one). She didn't seem too keen on it but the proposal merits a meeting at least. I'll keep you posted.

do you happen to read the library comic "unshelved"? one of the characters has a blog that she is continually updating at work, but she gets her boss to o.k. it by saying she is "facilitating a seamless information sharing environment" or something like that..might be worthwhile to stick that into your meeting :)

Yeah, Unshelved is pretty funny. I'll probably end up just hosting it on my own site to avoid all the complications and to be able to say whatever I want.
